Kapok: light and soft

Kapok is a very light, soft natural fibre with a fine hollow fibre structure. This structure makes the fibre versatile, from fine knitted fabrics to light insulation.

In our products we combine kapok with selected other materials, including polyester.

Depending on the construction, kapok can contribute to a light material build and to thermal insulation. In our shirts, it is mainly about the feel on the skin: soft and light. In insulation, the low density of the fibre makes light, warming constructions possible.

A FEW FACTS ABOUT KAPOK

Origin and production

What convinced us about kapok above all was its lightness.

The natural fibre comes from the seed pods of the kapok tree, also known as the silk-cotton tree. Inside the opened pods are the fine seed hairs from which the kapok fibre is obtained. Its natural hollow fibre structure makes it very light.

Turning this fine natural fibre into a versatile textile material takes specialist know-how. Our partner FLOCUS™ has developed its own processes and machines for this, making it possible to process kapok on a larger scale into yarns and nonwovens.
